HWD Driller

Jane works as a senior technical officer in the School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington, where she manages a number of geoscience-focussed research laboratories.

This is her fourth trip to Antarctica and third on the hot-water drilling team where she has expertise in all parts of the operation and maintenance of the system.

Her first trip to Antarctica was as a Master’s student, where she created a sedimentation model for the aeolian (wind-blown) sediment (or ‘dust’) transported from exposed, ice-free areas in McMurdo Sound to the Ross Sea, and where she was lucky enough to meet some Emperor penguins.
