Sidney Hemming is a professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of Columbia University and a member of the Senior Staff at Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory. She considers herself a historical geologist who mostly works on understanding the record of Earth’s history preserved in sediments and sedimentary rocks. She is a geochronologist who runs an argon geochronology lab at Lamont.
